I do wonder to what extent Balthazar had influence on Castiel's plans though. My guess is that Balthazar was just blithering on about the profitability of the soul market, and Cas was the one who was like, "Hmmm..." and cobbled together the idea. If this were Ocean's 11 AU, Balthazar is Brad Pitt and Cas is George Clooney. The Winchesters are Julia Roberts. Oh hell, this is pretty much Ocean's 11 AU, except with MORE MURDER AND DESPAIR.
though I'd like to believe that Castiel feels worse about it than Uriel used to, lol. Hee! Yes. I also like to believe that if Uriel had succeeded in killing Cas, he would've had to go smite a small village to make himself feel better. My headcanon for them has always been that they were good friends. It's just that with angels, it seems idealism/ideology is always going to trump love.
