janie_tangerine: (asoiaf >> SWORD IN THE DARKNESSS)
1. ... Er, hello world! I suppose everyone has given me up for MIA, right? /o\ damn, I don't think I've ever spent this long without updating. Or checking the FL, ugh. I swear I'll be up to date asap. Anyway, since I disappeared for two months, have a run-through of what's been going on here.

2. So, point is: I ended up swamped in finals-related cramming which went good for half and bad for the other half (because two were passed the way I wanted, the other two... one I had to skip because I caught some bothersome form of influenza and the other because even with the cramming I wasn't nowhere near ready for it), so now I have three left. Then it happened that apparently the one class I have to attend this semester is canceled and I won't know what to do about it until tomorrow, but my former supervisor for the bachelor's degree is making me do the master's thesis with her so at least there's something. And this entire deal pretty much ate up more of my free time than I'd have liked, so I ended up having to drop any social network where it doesn't take you more than five seconds to post. /o\

3. Also: if anyone has read about election results, B. came in *second*, the third biggest party's target seems to be 'let's make everyone look horrible by not agreeing with a government with the first so next elections we win!', and obviously the lovely people at the left party managed to get first but without enough votes to actually rule, so in the end I'm pretty sure they'll elect the new Pope before we have a government. Yay. If anyone around can guess, I've been wanting to cry hysterically about it since it happened. (I'm also seriously thinking about going out of the country as soon as I have the degree and I find any kind of job somewhere else, but that's not happening until graduation which isn't happening until October at best, so.) Also, two of B.'s trials are ending soon and he organizes a march against the magistrature - I'm not even sure I can stand another six months of him being relevant.

4. ... damn the new LJ update page is as horrible as I remember it, but you can't switch anymore, right? Damn. Okay, back on track.

5. I'm actually caught up with tv shows (okay, nope, I'm caught with SPN and the vampire porn, I had to drop the rest for the moment) but I haven't had time for any reaction post whatsoever so I'll see if after I'm as caught up with the f-list as I'm going to be I'll manage to do some huge meta post for everything I haven't reacted about. For now, in short: I'm not exactly getting what the vampire porn is trying to accomplish but Damon looks prettier than usual so whatever and SPN hasn't been this good in ages as far as I'm concerned, so nothing to complain on that side.

6. Oh, right, I'm also feeling totally conflicted about GOT. In the sense, I want to watch it for some things, but knowing what awaits me at the end makes me wish it aired next year. Or ten years from now. Anyone who read the books knows the deal. One thing that was very much true, though, is that if the posters are the best HBO can do then they'd be better off if they hired me. Or any person around here who can use photoshop, because my first reaction was 'damn give me the selective coloring tool and make me get rid of the blue'.

7. Concerts speaking: I'm seeing Mumford & Sons in a week and The National are coming in June! (The day after I'm supposed to be in Milan for Bon Jovi, but I'll manage somehow.) Also there's Neil Young coming at the end of July, and while the venue sucks I'll probably go because who knows when it's going to happen again. And there's Bruce Springsteen in July too, so at least I'm doing good with going to concerts this year.

8. Also: I totally failed at Christmas cards even if I had half of them ready /o\ in the next days I'm going to send belated PMs because I didn't even manage to make a thank you post for the one I received and then I'm going to see what to do with it. If you receive random cards in the middle of April or May from me, it's me being extremely late.

9. GRRM speaking: I've also apparently and masochistically ended up getting crazy into Wild Cards, aka The Other Huge Project That GRRM Has Been Doing For Ages But I Didn't Know About It, which I probably should have avoided for my own mental sanity. But I'm apparently in 'DAMN IT I'M IN WESTEROS WITHDRAWAL' mode, and I saw the first book reprinted and I thought the plot was interesting. Clearly I got hooked, and then I promptly found out that on twenty-one books, five are in print and the rest is not. Good news is that I got a Kindle for Christmas and I found a torrent for the e-books, so I'm covered, but you don't want to know the pain that it's been finding ten on twenty-one. The problem is that the eleven I'm missing are priced too much for paperbacks that were out in the early nineties, but I'll probably buy them all. Very much eventually. Anyway, there's obviously no fandom whatsoever for it, so at least I'm saved from possible 'OMG SHINY NEW FANDOM' shenanigans, since I have no time for it. D:

10. Oh, and in the mess above described in the first point, it happened that a guy who could pass for Richard Madden's little brother except with brown hair/eyes exists and he SOMETIMES, and with that I mean 'two times each year', appears in my university. And I was sitting behind the guy during the only written final I had this round. I'm going to spare you the reactions to finding out the guy's existence - they were mostly the kind you overgrow after fourteen, but clearly the one time I run into a guy with whom I'd totally consider trying to flirt (and I'm a total fail at flirting and related) he shows up twice and then I don't see him around anymore. *facepalm* Help. Obviously not having crushed on people at fourteen is showing up now. Ah well.

11. Okay, that was what's going on with me. Soooo tell me what's up with you all? I haven't managed to check the FL also because at some point I fell behind with TV and I didn't want to risk spoilers, and I'm not sure that I'll see everything that I missed because LJ only lets me go back so much :/ I'll try to go check individual journals instead, but meanwhile if something happened with you tell me/link me? I missed LJ, I want to get back into the swing of things. <3
janie_tangerine: (the vampire porn damon/alaric phone)
1. HI WORLD. Ugh, I'm totally sucking at updating lately but now that I've settled a couple of things I should be around more. Hopefully.

2. So, RL stuff, with updates on How Public University Works In This Country for anyone who's been hearing me bitching about it for the last six years - at least it's partially good news. here! )

3. Yesterday I went to a graduation party that was also held in a disco. I kind of ended up running after two hours even if I'm pretty sure everyone else stayed until five AM, but apparently disco music, more than five hundred people in the same space, inability to dance and inability to do conversation are too much. /o\ Meh. I'm not sure I'll ever get the appeal.

4. Our usual relatively spoiler-less TV roundup - one day I'll go back to full reviews posts...

a) H50: still not back at S1 glory, not as bad as it can get. And now also accepting former SPN and vampire porn people! Even if imo Julie McNiven was absolutely wasted in that episode she was in.

b) Boardwalk Empire: too little Chalky and not enough Richard for my tastes, but I liked the developments with Richard in the last episode aired. If the veteran's daughter is his supposed love interest this season I'll be totally fine with it - she looks cool. For some reason, Van Alden is apparently my third-favorite character now - what the hell, right? Also someone please tell me that what happened in the last episode I've seen him fucks him over because I just want him and Swedish Babysitter Now Turned Wife to be happy, k? Margaret is better than last season. Nucky needs to wake up and be more interesting again. Owen keeps on saying absolutely nothing to me. Gillian needs to go away. Okay, I suppose it's all.

c) Vampire porn, which I realize I haven't posted about in ages: it's back! YES! AND I LOVE IT! I love everything. I love how they're dealing with vampire!Elena, for some reason I apparently like Klaus a lot more this season - wtf. I'm extremely glad that Tyler didn't in fact die. Bonnie needs more appreciation. Not sure about the new people but I don't dislike them. Also the hunter makes this-season-Winchesters seem like humanitarians. Damon is *glorious* this season, period. I <3 Damon okay. Also as everyone imagined that scene with Damon on Ric's grave and ALARIC BEING THERE AND BEING LIKE 'I MISS YOU TOO' = I DIED. DIED. THE WHOLE THING WITH DAMON KEEPING RIC'S SEAT EMPTY WASN'T ENOUGH - THEY HAD TO DO THAT I CANNOT SJDHSAJDJH MY POOR SHIP. Just - ugh. It makes me cry in every possible way. THOSE TWO, WHY DID THEY NEED TO TAKE RIC FROM DAMON DAMMIT DDDDDD: *weepfest* anyway nothing is going to beat that scene this season for a long time I foresee. Also is it normal that I want Damon and Meredith to have 'I miss Alaric so much' sex? Yes? No? I give up. Also Caroline is still the best and seriously, this stupid vampire show is still the thing I enjoy most without reserve. Whatever. Go them. Oh, also, finally Matt has a storyline. More or less. We all appreciate.

d) SPN: 8x03 was mostly good, nothing to say about it either way except that Sam's behavior seems kind of odd to me. Or at least written oddly - I mean, I can't believe no one ever bought him a birthday cake. Or that he'd talk about having a normal life as if he *never* did try it in the first place - idk, probably it was some writing issue and they went about it wrong but it left me very perplexed. 8x04 was imo very good - it took a bit to get into the style of it and tbh seriously, do people ever STUDY when they're at campuses in these shows, but I really really like the outsider perspective and that they decided to give the monster a chance at the end - considering that lately they're all gung-ho about killing hosts and whatever it was a nice change. And that said, seriously, Sam and Dean appeared for probably like five minutes in the entire thing but when at the end Dean had that dejected face while he asked 'do I really say awesome that much?' I think someone punched my heart or something. Just - HOW DO YOU DO IT WITH ONE LINE SERIOUSLY. Other than that: Sam's hair keeps on being a mystery - I'm pretty sure that it's possessed since it CHANGES FROM FRAME TO FRAME, IT CAN'T BE POSSIBLE - and the office romance line was kind of hilarious. Lol. Unknowing wincest shippers much? Anyway, neither episode was on par with the first two, but they weren't bad whatsoever.

e) Kings, which I finished sometime last week: I'd just like to state that whoever canceled this after one season was a criminal. CRIMINAL. YOU DON'T CANCEL THIS KIND OF BRILLIANCE. I loved everything about it. The whole biblical retelling was overall genius, the acting was out of this world (seriously IAN MCSHANE SERIOUSLY WHY CAN'T THEY EVER MAKE A SHOW WITH THE GUY THAT ACTUALLY FINISHES ITS RUN) and Jack was totally my favorite (... considering that he was pretty much the Theon of the situation except with some more PR skills and more luck in taking horrible decisions that's probably not a surprise - also I mean, Sebastian Stan *dies*) and everything was done so well and clearly THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET TO THE POINT WHERE DAVID BECOMES KING UGH seriously *why*. The fact that my Bible reading was recent probably is influencing my opinions but seriously everything about that show was made of win. Except that it isn't longer. DDDDDD: why do networks always cancel smart shows/stuff I like? Meh.

f) I started Treme. I'm nowhere near far enough in it to do serious reviews, but it's *awesome*. And I appreciate all the music I'm discovering thanks to it. Also all the people from The Wire in the cast are automatically a win. (And Kim Dickens! I missed her face!). I'll probably have more in-depth reactions when I finish S1.

5) Telegraph Avenue is gorgeous. Even if Chabon needs to stop torturing me with bittersweet endings okay, I cannot. Anyway, I'm not going into spoilers here - if I manage to do a goodreads review I'll do it there - but while it still wasn't quite as good as Kavalier & Clay it still was a darned gorgeous book. Also: dear Michael, on behalf of poor ESL people who tend to write in run-on sentences and do-not-get why the English language hates them so much, THANK YOU. Because a guy who manages to publish a book where there's a 12 pages long POV of a parrot which is.. well, twelve-pages of one run-on sentence that actually makes sense, has all my admiration. Seriously, I think that when I was done with that part I spent about five minutes with my eyes like this -> O______O. And now I'll have to wait another five years before he puts out another novel, knowing his timing - sigh. I just want to marry that man's sentences.

6) Aaand for a last thing, completely OT from that: this is the best Robb/Theon meta you'll ever read. Actually I'd say also the best meta on Robb *and* Theon singularly since it says stuff about the characters not necessarily taking the relationship into consideration all the time. Seriously, I think finding the link to this has given meaning to the fact that I actually use tumblr at all and I feel obliged to link it around. It's some flawless meta. Period. And with this I'll go doing productive stuff, sort of.
janie_tangerine: (supernatural dean/castiel)
1. ... hi again. *waves* wow, this month I've been the worst at updating. *sigh* well, I'm giving you bullet points.

a) University has started again. I have sort-of-decent-classes, except for the ones that I have to study for without attending. Also I should manage to do my masters thesis with the person I want, but there's some bureaucracy drama going on over there and seriously, it's been five and a half years and I'm *still* headdesking over bureaucracy.

b) Random advice from yours truly: never put iodine tincture on you if you can help it. Long story short, I put some on my shoulder to relieve myself from mosquito-related swelling and I practically burned a hole into my skin. That happened two weeks ago. I still can't go out without gauze over it. /o\ seriously, don't ever do it.

c) I have tickets to see Gaslight Anthem in Milan! \o/ I'm so excited about it, you don't even know. \o/

d) My granddad is doing decently, or at least more decently than I thought, so at least there's that. *crosses fingers*

e) I have the new Chabon book. I'm not much far into it yet, but it's about two guys working in A USED RECORD SHOP. Needless to say that the moment I read the synopsis I was very much pleased.

2) So, TV that isn't SPN. Have all bullet points - nothing will be spoilers.

Boardwalk Empire: Richard and Van Alden are (the last one surprisingly) the best thing about this season yet. Nucky is seriously starting to scare me. Margaret has gotten slightly better since last season's fail. I appreciate that the Italian people actually sound Italian. Needs more Chalky overall. Gillian keeps on majorly creeping me out and Richard is still the best person in that bunch.

H50: the premiere was meh, also because they were seriously pushing the 'let's write shit that couldn't possibly happen according to the laws of physics' - also people need to stop dump all the angst on Chin. The second episode - I watched it the evening when I finished The Wire. Suffices to say that I totally don't remember what happened. The last one was actually delightful, also because finally they went back to the S1 formula. Can it be like that always? Thanks. Anyway, as things are whenever Danny or Chin aren't on screen I tend to tune out. :/

And a shout out to the vampire porn, which is back today and which will undoubtedly make my Friday a lot better than it is right now.

Anyway, the sad thing is that (with SPN's exception, but more on that in the next point) everything I'm watching lately seems either sub-par or just *not good enough* because I keep comparing it with The Wire, which is obviously not very smart of me since a few things can compare to it in the first place.

3. Okay, let's talk about SPN. I wanted to make a post about the premiere but I obviously didn't because a) I was too lazy, b) last week this time I was too busy trying to figure out what to do about the iodine-induced burn on my shoulder (with pitiful results) and in the end I didn't manage. So, under there there's rambling about both the premiere and the second episode.

spoilersssssss )

4. In other news, the new LJ posting interface (the one in beta) is fugly. Can I hope it can be opted out from, when it's time? Because I don't want buttons to help me with my html. :/

5. And with that I'll probably go have another emotional breakdown while I rewatch that certain part of the latest SPN ep discussed above. I still can't believe that happened.
janie_tangerine: (fishisms ftw)
1) Hi. I'm still sorting through JIB pictures and RL is being a piece of boring/stressing work, but I swear con reports and con pictures are coming sometime this weekend. My lack of motivation over university stuff (seriously, the only thing that hasn't bored me to pieces in class in the last month was watching A Dangerous Method in my sorta useless English class. And I had seen it already, but hey, I never refuse) is rapidly becoming lack of motivation over anything more substantial than catching up with tv or reading, which I'm not liking at all. Meh. Then again I really don't care about anything this semester.

2) Also, I caught up with tv shows and shit, so have some more or less detailed reaction posts here.

H50, finale and general stuff )

the vampire porn )

SPN, 7x21 and 7x22 )

3. Woah, that was a lot of tv. Which means that my flaily reactions to The Wind Through The Keyhole are getting posted at the next round, but for now: EDDIE DEAN I MISSED YOU, YAY FOR A CERTAIN PERSON GETTING THE SPOTLIGHT, ROLAND ILU, Stephen King damn you write more side novels I beg you. I suppose this covers it if I don't want to spoil. I also have finished S4 of the Sopranos but it's gonna be discussed next post, too.

4. RL front can be summed up in MEH. The only thing I'm looking forward in the next month is the Bruce Springsteen concert in Milan (<3333) but other than that I just see finals about things I don't care about looming in front of me and ugh. This is officially the most lackluster semester in my entire university run. Where do I find some motivation? Because I'd need a lot of it.

5. In fandom news, I think I need to stay in my bubble at least re GOT until it's over. I knew that this season would have been bad for anyone who merely didn't utterly dislike Theon but the wank has been out of the world crazy. :/ Heck, SPN seems relatively sane in comparison right now.

6. Aaand since I sadly have nothing else, let's have a randm meme to finish this, stolen by [livejournal.com profile] elliotsmelliot. It's at least one week old but it serves.

post a list of 20 shows you watch/watched.

•Have your friends list guess your favorite character from each show.
•When someone guesses your favorite character, bold the title.
•When guessed, tell us at least one reason why you like that character.

list! )
janie_tangerine: (fuck everything and be a pirate)
1) First: sorry for dropping off the radar and missing a bunch of comments/things but after the con weekend I fell into a pretty much comatose state. I still haven't sorted all my pictures (HOW DID I TAKE 2000 PICTURES SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN ME THAT) and I had to go to class and everything and I managed to check the FL just today. (After one week. It was fun.) Anyway I should be all more or less caught up, and I'll go answer comments and things after I'm done with this post. And this weekend you'll get the con recap posts, if I manage to sort through my pictures.

2) Second: Misha Collins is awesome.

3) Okay, I just had to state that. Third: small tv recap, I won't even use the spoiler tag since I'll be very quick and generic. No vampire porn as I'm three eps behind, but I'm gonna catch up asap.

SPN 7x19 and 7x20: 7x19 was very good and I'm intrigued by how they're dealing with the Bobby situation, even if at this point I'd have preferred if they had just kept him alive in the first place. 7x20 was absolutely delicious and I want Felicia Day back. Please? I loved it! Even if I still can't take the guy playing Dick seriously. Just - he looks like Christian Bale okay, I can't. And I'm still intrigued by the Bobby situation.

GOT 2x05: Brienne, every scene you have is flawless. Especially if it's with Catelyn. Also, is it necessary to have Littlefinger every-fucking-where? Also, Theon, break my heart some more, will you. *grabby hands* *hugs* those were the specifics. As a whole it was a ton better than the previous one. Now next week it's going to be HILARIOUS. Not really, I'll weep.

4) In the midst of my coma-like week, I also saw The Avengers, without any context whatsoever as I haven't seen any superhero movie released since... probably The Dark Knight. Maybe. Whatever, I enjoyed it and I could follow it without much of an issue in spite of just knowing who a few people were in theory (even if I still stand by my opinion that the best superhero movie that will ever be is Batman Returns. There, I had to say it). And that stated... anyone could give me Bruce centered fic recs? (if he's paired with either Tony or Steve or - even better - both it'd be awesome.) *cough* because obviously I went out of the cinema being like 'I want to read Bruce Banner/THE WORLD, DID ANYTHING ELSE HAPPEN'. But from my AO3 forays I realized that there's not much around of my listed ships. Whatever, if it's good I'll take him with anyone really. But that said I'm just glad that now I know what everyone is talking about. xD

5) Aaand now that I got the 'I'M STILL ALIVE' post out of the way I'll go sort out pictures and answer to comments and catch up. Buuut here, I'm gonna leave you with a treat:

You're welcome ;)
janie_tangerine: (philosophy)
1) Thanks so much to everyone who sent those pretty glass hearts ♥ my profile looks a lot prettier and my v-day sucked a lot less than it usually does. ;) Ilu all.

2) Dear world, I'm ready for this session to be over and for the weather to get better, because when you live in the only sort of civilized city where buses don't have wheels for snow in 75% of the cases and if it snows a bit 75% of the public transportation gets shut down and so you end up at home revising which is exactly what you did since vacations were over, you start to go stir-crazy. At least another two and then I can just go see five movies in a row. And the fact that a lovely coffee shop/bakery that sells glorious not-so-tiny cupcakes opened near home therefore making it the only reachable not-useless place around is threatening my levels of sugar, not that I regret cupcakes.

3) Okay, uh, you remember when I said that I couldn't be bothered with Ringer not being just plain stupid anymore but bordering on (imo) offensive? Yeah, I take it back because today's episode was just - I have no freaking words. Rant under the cut, feel free to ignore if you a) like that show, b) don't watch it (and it's good for you). Also: discussion about triggering material (non-consensual sex).

seriously? SERIOUSLY? )

4. And after that rant that was probably too long for that show, and to remind myself why I'm watching it next week after all, here, have some Misha being OMG ADORABLE NEXT TO THE GUINNESS WIN CERTIFICATE. I'd just like to state that having contributed to be in a Guinness primate feels pretty darn awesome. I have something to tell my nephews now. ;)

5. Also, the porn battle is sadly over. :( I managed six fills this round which was awesome. Posting will happen tomorrow or so. (And recs as well probably.)

6. Aaand it's almost 1 AM and I have fic to finish and stuff to study/revise tomorrow so I'll just thank everyone for the shiny sparking hearts and be off. Sigh. One of these days one of these entries will be full of exciting RL shenanigans, but this isn't it.
janie_tangerine: (the vampire porn damon 2.0)
1. Exam two on five is done! Now if I can just keep up the average that I managed to get this round I'll be a happy person. Other than that, it has snowed for the first time in years! Like, seriously snowed with the snow lasting for three days. And obviously since our mayor is an idiot, the city is half-paralyzed and today they closed everything even if it has snowed on Friday. And obviously public transport isn't working either. *facepalm*

2. And since this weekend I stayed holed up to finish an exchange fic that ended up being 28k and I didn't manage to do reaction posts, have some TV blathering under the cuts. SPN, vampire porn, Luck and some Ringer headdesking.

a) Ringer 1x10/11(getting the crappy stuff out of the way first): okay, this isn't gonna need spoiler cuts because I can't even take it seriously enough, but I can't wait for Misha to do that episode so I can quit watching it. The last two episodes were... the epitome of abysmal. I mean, my most basic reaction is is everyone in this show completely dumb?, and the fact that the only person who showed some smarts lately is the bff's husband says all. Also cut for potentially triggering subjects ie non-consensual sex )

b) Luck: no spoiler cuts since this is just general impression, but is anyone else watching this? Horse races/betting isn't really my thing but since a) it's David Milch's idea, b) Dustin Hoffmann is in it c) Michael Mann directed the pilot I figured I'd give it a try. I thought it was pretty good even if it's not at the awesome level that Deadwood was (at least at the pilot level) and in the only episode I watched it was all about characters, but the second looked more fast-paced and the acting is actually excellent, so I guess I'll stick around and give it a chance. Heck, I still haven't quit Ringer and that one is just bad, this one actually has good premises...

c) SPN 7x13 the splice girls - spoilers )

d) Vampire porn 3x13 bringing out the dead )

3) Also, in the midst of all the Plato I had to read I managed to finish this non-ASOIAF novel by GRRM which I think deserves a bit of a rec if only because it's.. well, an interesting read at least. Or well, I bought it mostly because when you tell me that it's a novel about a former rock journalist turned writer who lives wondering where his generation went wrong in the seventies and ends up investigating a murder that is related to some cursed rock band named NAZGUL and which could be the trigger for the apocalypse... well, color me intrigued.

by the way, it's named The Armageddon Rag )

4. Also, I managed to see J. Edgar obviously months after the rest of the world saw it and apart from some questionable choices in make-up department... Clint Eastwood, just never stop making movies okay. Clearly it got Oscar-snubbed too (seriously, poor Leo deserved a nomination at least), but whatever, I loved it. ♥

5. Random music rec for Bob Dylan fans (and well, look at the list and see if there's someone you like): Amnesty International has produced this OMG SO MANY SONGS compilation thing named Chimes of Freedom where.. well, a bunch of people cover Bob Dylan songs and that you can buy on their site for a total convenient price (20 dollars for all 78 songs, 25 dollars for the cd or you can buy individual mp3s). Apart from being for a good cause.. well, while there's something in there that is questionable at best (I still don't know how I feel aboutMiley Cyrus or about Kesha covering Don't Think Twice, It's All Right...) there are some damn awesome covers (IE: Patti Smith doing Drifter's Escape, Gaslight Anthem doing Changing of the Guards, Mark Knopfler doing Restless Farewell, Flogging Molly doing The Times, They're a Changin' & Pete Seeger doing Forever Young, and there are also the likes of Jackson Browne, Nils Lofgren AND Paul Rodgers [which sent me into heaven], Lucinda Williams, Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle; also I think there are a couple new groups I want to check out just based on how they did Hattie Carroll) and it really is a bargain, so I figured I'd leave the link here. Also all the money goes for a good cause, so..

6. Okay, I'll now go deleting all the spam comments that LJ has seen fit to send my way lately (if they want me to be frustrated with them, they're doing it right...) and amusing myself with the porn battle prompts for this round that I have eyed today. There's been some awesome stuff posted already. :D *goes eyeing prompts*
janie_tangerine: (psycho fanfic)
1. ... very late happy new year world! ♥ Okay, this is way late but between LJ not letting me comment, a final I had to cram for and fic deadlines I totally managed to procrastinate even on posting here. *facepalm*

2. So, out of the way: thanks for the Christmas cards! :D I totally failed to do it before also because most of them arrived in January or end of the December when I wasn't at home (Italian postal service, how so failing), so.. thanks for the cards to:

[livejournal.com profile] tellshannon815 (let's hope for more Ian indeed!), [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords, [livejournal.com profile] vella_amor_dm, [livejournal.com profile] itsjustc, [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev (omg that card is gorgeous! <3), [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7, [livejournal.com profile] hopelessfangirl, [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee, [livejournal.com profile] jaydblu and [livejournal.com profile] invisiblelove!

If you sent me one and I didn't mention you... eeeh, the postal service this year has been crappy on the receiving end so it'll probably get to me soon. Hopefully. I have sent one to everyone who asked, hopefully all of them got there fine but since I sent them from the only postal office in this country where they make you attach four stamps on your own and some weren't even adhesive I just hope that they -do- get wherever you are at some point. Thanks again everyone! ♥ ♥ ♥

3. RL-wise, I'm drowning in notes and I have four finals to go out of five. Good news is that the first went good, bad news is that it wasn't the worst one out of the way and that I'll have exactly one free day before the new term starts. Someone remind me why I always end up cramming everything at the last moment.

4. TV-wise, I'm behind with a couple of things but I managed to catch up with most things currently airing, so have some mixed general reactions.

spn 7x10 - 7x12 )

vampire porn 7x10 - 7x12 )

sherlock series two )

chuck - entire season up until the last episode )

boardwalk empire S2 - finale blathering as well )

5. Theeen, I need to rec fics that I got for Yuletide/exchanges AND another awesome one I read yesterday, so, have a small rec angle! (That said, NY's resolution: do the rec posts regularly. Let's try..)

First, I'm gonna put the bulk of it under a cut but since this one needs to be spread around, it's outside a cut so that the world can see it (or better: the Jon/Sam shippers on my FL can see it and go shower it with love and comments):

- Samwell Tarly’s Merciless Observations and their Ramifications, by [livejournal.com profile] restlesspuppy; Game of Thrones, Jon/Sam, NC17, no spoilers after the first season; Samwell Tarly is fascinated by Jon Snow. Samwell Tarly wants to know Jon Snow from the inside as well as the outside.

You know that I spend half of my time weeping because there's no Jon/Sam around this fandom? WELL. This fic has, not necessarily in this order: spot-on characterizations (seriously, her Sam voice is superb and Jon is totally perfect), lovely prose, scorching hot sex (which imo is made even better by who's topping), awesome execution altogether and it's just so good I could cry. Anyone around here who ships it, go and give it a try because it's awesomecakes and deserves hits.

Yuletide & Christmas exchanges + random lone fic; Dark Tower, ASOIAF, SPN and a crossover )

This is all for now - I still need to go through the Lost HoHoHo stuff, so there'll be recs from that too as soon as I'm done with a) finishing stuff I'm supposed to have finished in a week, b) re-posting everything I haven't re-posted because of school or laziness since... November or so.

6. Aaaand, to get back into the swing of things and end this extra-long thing, meme stolen from... everyone.

... okay. Done. Hi again! *vows to get back into the loop*

1. Hi! *waves* Gosh, I haven't posted in a while. Blame Misha and his scavenger hunting thing. If it doesn't get into the Guinness World Record I'll feel cheated. (I don't even care about winning - I just want it to make it into the record. XD) Also: thanks Misha for making me find out that there's a lot of pictures of Hillary Clinton looking kind of drunk all over the internet. I really needed to know that.

2. There are still three unguessed ships for the ship meme, so have some hints.

3 is from a uber-famous book that was a uber-famous movie, but the scene I was quoting is only in the book. it wasn't even in the extended edition of the movie...
12 is direct quoting. It's a book first (there's a movie, too). It's absolutely canon.
15 is a UK show in which 99% of the viewers ships one half of the pairing with another person.

3. ASOIAF/GOT peole, there's a comment fic meme going on here. If any of you is inclined to participate/leave some prompts go check it out. :D (beware: it's for books & show so there are spoilery prompts but the book is indicated in the subject header so it should be pretty safe. Still, thread with care.)

4. Music related, one: ME AND [livejournal.com profile] lasamy HAVE TICKETS FOR SPRINGSTEEN IN JUNE. But I'll probably also go visit [livejournal.com profile] pnr in July and see him again if it goes through. BRUCE TWICE IN A YEAR :DDDD 2012 you already shape up to be good.

5. Music related, two: so, Joe Pug, aka the guy who opened the last Steve Earle concert that I attended and who I really really like has a live record for sale on his site for five bucks which also is comprehensive of most of his stuff that I like so I figured I'd pimp it out. He has a very nice voice and he makes some lovely music, so if you're into (good) soft country rock I'll leave it here.

6. Betaing related, take two: I might have this covered at least for only the grammar aspect, but is there anyone around who's both into SPN and the vampire diaries who'd look over my crossover exchange fic aka a Cas/Rebekah fic of the NC17 variety? Has spoilers until SPN 7x02 and the latest vampire porn ep.

7. Quick spoiler free TV round-up: H50 is getting definitely a lot better, ridiculousness aside (and welcome back, John Locke School of Getting Shit Done!). Ringer: ...well, I didn't even understand that it was on hiatus, but I still think it's the bad kind of ridiculous up to this point. Hell on Wheels: getting a whole lot better. I'm really digging it. The only thing I don't dig is Colm Meaney's character. Whenever he's on, I miss Ian McShane. Boardwalk Empire: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG WTF HAPPENED LAST EPISODE OMG. If anyone wants to discuss in comments, feel free to do so after a spoiler alert. Vampire porn: I MISS IT. SPN: I have to review the latest ep still but it was awesome except for the last two minutes. Ben Edlund never leave me and keep on making me forget the crap that was 7x08. Chuck: awww show I'll miss you when you're gone. Also JEFFSTER WHY YOU MAKE ME SUFFER SO.

And this stated, my uncle finally managed to give me my birthday present which was supposed to be the first two Sopranos season. Then I saw that he got me also third and fourth. Which means, at some point massive Sopranos catching up will happen.

8. My Yuletide assignment is GLORIOUS. I'm gleeing just at the thought.

9. I'm sure I had something else to say but it's past one AM and yesterday I went to bed at four thanks to Misha Collins and gishwhes and the likes, so I think this is it for now. Expect a christmas card post tomorrow or Thursday though. :)

1. Happy late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] 88mph and happy on-time-in-the-proper-timezone birthday to [livejournal.com profile] verucasalt123! I hope you both had/are having smashing days and that your next year will be more awesome than not (and filled with Kill Bill references on SPN). ;) If you want to leave a prompt I'll see what I can do. :)

2. In RL news: bad side, everyone in the uni's student office should be strangled. (News of the year: you can't even choose the exams that are in the STUDENT'S CHOICE box on the study plan. If I ever meet the thankfully now former ministry of public instruction, I'll make her want to crawl underground. Anyway, it's been solved by technically-not-so-honest methods. Did I ever say I want to be done with Italian bureaucracy?) Good side: tomorrow and the day after I'm going to Milan for opera reasons. Thinking about it makes me momentarily forget the bad side since it's bucket list item #2 to cross. \o/

3. In TV news:

a) Since I can't quit Ringer until Misha does his thing, I caught up on the last two episodes. Non-spoilery response: the more it goes on the more I laugh. Also... sorry, but I've never seen a show with a dumber lead character. There, said it. Also the writers should do research on how heroin withdrawal and genetics work (red hair is RECESSIVE!), but I stopped expecting coherence from that show after episode two.

b) I'm missing the latest H50 episode still but the previous was better than most of this season put together, even if I still don't get Lori's point.

c) Boardwalk Empire is still at the level of: ten minutes of it are better than everything I watch the rest of the week combined. Though it needs more Chalky and Jimmy and Richard making out asap.

d) I'm also watching Hell on Wheels. Which I'm enjoying a lot except when they try to be Deadwood. The pilot pushed more on that aspect which is why I liked half of it and checked out during the second, but the second was already better on that aspect so I'll stick with this from now. I really do like the lead character (and his lovely boots), the black guy he's apparently going to be bffs with and that entire storyline (also the first scene of the pilot was aces). I can't get into Colm Meaney's character because it seems to me like he wants to be Al Swearengen at all costs and.. well, apart from the character being miles from Al's glory, Ian McShane would eat the actor for breakfast. So I check out whenever he monologues to nothing. I still don't know what to make of the lady with the dead husband, but maybe once she actually does something other than running from indians I might appreciate it more. Also the guy playing Alistair in SPN being the sheriff made me cackle with laughter throughout all of episode two (which was a lot better than one). Anyway for now I'm sticking with it - it's not a masterpiece and it's definitely not in the Deadwood league, but when they aren't trying to re-do it it's pretty good and hey, western show on my screen! My western fetish is being fulfilled and if they keep on doing their thing and Colm Meaney stops trying to be Ian McShane I'll be okay. Still, whenever I watch it I curse because three seasons of Deadwood weren't enough for my needs, but I figured it'd happen.

e) About SPN 7x08, since it's obvious that I'm not doing a separate post for it and I won't have time this weekend.. there it goes. By the way: it was probably my least favorite episode of this show in existence, so read at your own risk/amusement/whatever.

done a bit differently. )

4. Also, tomorrow the entire insane gishwishes thing apparently begins. Clearly I'll miss two days because I'm out *eyes Misha and his timing*. But let's see where it goes. Considering how embarrassing it was to ask someone to take a picture of yours truly with the gishwishes sign I think this is going to be shock therapy for my tendency to get embarrassed.

5. I'll probably do Yuletide. As if I needed ANOTHER exchange... but there are some fandoms which are too shiny for me not to do it.

6. Aaand that's all also because my train is at eight in the morning. *sigh* hopefully I can do some fic exchanges on there tomorrow.

1. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] thespiansparkle and [livejournal.com profile] carmexgirl! :DDD i hope that you're both having awesome days and that the next year is nothing short of awesome. (And that possibly brings Misha Collins back on our screens, that damned new Dark Tower book and everything you shall wish for.) And if any of you has prompts I'll see what I can do. :)

2. Meeeh apart from episode reviews I haven't posted anything lately. Reason: I was supposed to have an exam on the 19th, then it was moved to the 24th, THEN it was moved to the 3rd (for me) and I've been angsting over it until now. And will angst over it until Thursday. Doesn't help that I don't care about any of it but hopefully the second time will go through...

3. Meanwhile I've been at least keeping up with shows.

Shortly: Ringer keeps on being ridiculous and at some point I'll just fast forward to the scenes with Nestor Carbonell and watch just him. Mostly because the characters seem to be in a race for who is the most dumb. like, just a couple of things ) H50 got better even if it's still not as shiny as last season and I still don't get if I want Lori gone or not. Then again just show me AOL without a shirt and we can talk. Sirens got canceled so there goes the only new show that I really liked this season. Meeeh.

3b. A couple longer things about Boardwalk Empire: mostly about 2x05 but also some 2x06 )

4. So, Misha Collins is apparently wanting to get into the world records guinness by making us go insane and opened a website for it. Out of all the things you were supposed to do until now I only managed to get someone to take a picture of yours truly while holding up a sign saying gishwishes takes Rome. You don't want to know how I explained the entire thing to the very nice woman taking the pic for me. If anyone has missed the collage on the site..

You can see yours truly's face for a split half of a second at 0.44. I'm the one with the trenchcoat in front of the Pantheon - you can't really read the sign but you COULD, if looked at the picture in the right size. XD

5. Throwing it here: anyone would be willing to beta for me 6000 words of Castiel & Amelia Novak fic for Novakfest? Posting starts on the 8th but I highly doubt I'll be posting early, so no hurries.

6. Aaand... happy Halloween to whoever seriously does it! Between it not being a huge thing here and the fact that I have to study physics stuff I absolutely don't give a damn about I'm doing.. absolutely anything, but here, have the Best Thing Ever For This Holiday that I know.

Don't tell me that it isn't awesome. ;)

7. And I think it shall be it for now. At some point I'll get back into the swing of things. Possibly after having passed this thing. The day I thought that the master's degree meant more laid back schedule I was so very wrong.

1. Happy late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] jaydblu! :D I hope you had an amazing day and that next year brings awesome/nice things all the way. ♥

2. So, classes have started which is why I've been scarce. Thankfully this round I actually give a shit about four classes on four rather than one on three, so maybe this semester won't be the complete drag that last semester was. Also none of my current teachers is an idiot, which is definitely a plus. Now I just need to get through a will-be-not-nice session at the university office if they have to bitch about what I need to put on my study plan. Hopefully I won't end up on the newspaper for strangling the employees. (Also, in my university the office supposed to deal with students is now open TWICE each week, three hours each, and none of these is in the afternoon. At times I think I should have done university abroad entirely.)

3. TV talking under the cut! Or well, what TV I've seen that isn't the vampire porn or SPN. Also: the bit about H50 isn't exactly flattering and there's talking of possibly triggering subjects.

4. Meanwhile, out of utter curiosity (and because it was short) I went and downloaded/watched New Amsterdam. What's sad: the eight episodes of that show are better than half of the new shows I checked out. *facepalm* It was lovely. And I obviously need to catch up with things either till airing or wrapped up, not things that were canceled without an ending ages ago.

5. I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo again, in hopes that during November I manage to finish stuff. Last year it was awesome and being forced to write daily is a good thing, so I'll give it another go. One of these years I'll do the regular Nanowrimo again but it'll be when I'm done with classes forever.

6. Sadly, the exciting news are done for now. But hey, why not a meme? Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] elliotsmelliot and [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders: give me a book/show/movie and I'll answer with:

1. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] valhalla37! I hope you're having a smashing time and that your next year is full of awesome things, job-wise and everything else-wise, and may it also be filled with Jeremy Davies getting a lead on a good show or appearing in as many places as possible. ♥ and if you have prompts or anything I'll see what I can do. :)

1b. Incidentally, also happy birthday to Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles and John Coltrane. Why wasn't -I- born on Sept. 23rd?

1c. Oh, and double incidentally, I hope Misha is having the time of his life at his kid's birthday party. Another one who picked a good day to be born, unlike myself.

2. In RL news: university is currently making me want to commit harakiri in ten different ways. (And I ended up refusing my grade at that stupid exam and ended this close to arguing with my professor but whaaatever. Next time.) In better news, my tooth is apparently fixed and also not sensitive anymore, and it's good that it's done with. In I-don't-even-know news, after the high school reunion I'm apparently facing a junior high reunion. I'm totally not convinced that it's a good idea, since it's the kind of thing where you should bring popcorn and munch while people strangle each other virtually, but we shall see. And yoga started again, and it's been glorious. At least that.

3. Also, I've seen a lot of TV in the last two days.

Also: BOARDWALK EMPIRE IS BACK THIS WEEK! :DDDDDDDDD aaand SPN is back today! Tomorrow for me! I'm feeling ridiculously giddy and happy and flailing about the first and... re the second, I'm totally unspoiled and just wanting to see what happens, and I'm glad that it's back altogether because by now I've been wrecking myself after it for five years, it'd feel wrong not angsting about it anymore. Tho please FSM let Castiel have a good story, thanks.

4. Also, I might not be the greatest Foo Fighters geek on this planet but when I see this kind of stuff I'm glad that they exist.

The best thing is that out of the Westboro people just one understood they were being made fun of by the people they were picketing.

5. PM is being disgusting beyond any limit. Germans on my FL: sorry regarding his comments re your PM, who's surely a lot more competent than him. (And way more attractive, all things considered.) basically: guy said in a wiretapping stuff that would make me say 'well let them be bankrupt' if I were her. thankfully for everyone I'm not. Also, my favorite Italian program got axed because he didn't appreciate that they did satire about him/invited people he didn't like. The second I know when we vote, since they're not lasting until the term is done, I'll mark days on a calendar.

6. Next post should have a bunch of recs. Which I didn't do this summer but I want to see if I can pick up the habit. Hopefully...

7. Aaand that's it for now. I'll go to bed crossing my fingers for good things to happen on SPN. Or better, to Castiel, who am I fooling..

Hawaii 5-0 2x01 )

vampire porn 3x02 )

Person of Interest )

2. Very much more random. I took that tarot cards quiz going around the internet. First thing: I found it totally AWESOME that in the question 'what's your favorite heavenly body' after all the solar system's planets there was Uma Thurman for an answer. Guess what I answered? Yeah, right.

Anyway, I got this:

You are The Tower

Ambition, fighting, war, courage. Destruction, danger, fall, ruin.

The Tower represents war, destruction, but also spiritual renewal. Plans are disrupted. Your views and ideas will change as a result.

The Tower is a card about war, a war between the structures of lies and the lightning flash of truth. The Tower stands for "false concepts and institutions that we take for real." You have been shaken up; blinded by a shocking revelation. It sometimes takes that to see a truth that one refuses to see. Or to bring down beliefs that are so well constructed. What's most important to remember is that the tearing down of this structure, however painful, makes room for something new to be built.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I'm not 100% sure that it's an accurate answer, even though it, mmmh, says dangerously true things about stuff going on in my current state of mind, but I'm just laughing at the fact that I got THE TOWER. Like, that quiz knows what I'm obsessed with. doesn't Roland Deschain come with it?

3. Sirens is over. If they don't renew it I shall be very sad. Why do UK shows last for six episodes when it's good and three when it's bad? Meh. It was the best new thing I had seen this year. :( On the other side I decided I'm saving Game of Thrones for when I go to my grandmother's place after the 15th because I'll be without internet except for once a day and I'll have a whole damn lot of time to kill. Hopefully my grandmother won't think that I'm insane if she sees me watching it.

4. I have nothing more and that second point probably took enough space already so I'll leave this post here. Can't believe I'm actually almost done with that meme...
