Lost 6x07 'Dr. Linus'

Well, I'm baffled myself because of my own reaction. This might be the only Ben episode in the history of Lost which I actually liked. WHAT.
Team CTRL + ALT + CANC
1. Ben explaining Napoleon = SO APPROPRIATE. -nod- Also LOL at him talking about Elba. Hey, it's my country, dammit. And awww at Ben being so protective of his little history club.
2. BEN AND ARZT BEING BFFs IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED THIS SEASON AFTER BOONE. WHEN I REALIZED IT I WAS LIKE 'SCORE!'.
3. Aha, so basically while in the regular storyline Ben mindfucks with Locke, here Locke starts making Ben get grandeur illusions? Fiiittiiing.
4. Aw, Alex. <3 Do I assume that Danielle is alive in this verse too? Though poor woman, on the island she's crazy and in the alt she has two jobs? Will she ever get a break? And for some strange reason the whole Ben and Alex interaction in the alt didn't creep me out. Even if I think it was supposed to.
5. Augh, hi Roger. For a second when they filmed Ben taking out whatever it was that he had under the kitchen sink I thought it'd have ended with Ben giving Roger some kind of euthanasia because alt!Ben is too not creepy not to have something like that up his sleeve, but in the end it seems like he knew better than his counterpart, so...
6. I REITERATE, ARZT WILLING TO FUCK WITH THE PRINCIPAL'S COMPUTER BECAUSE HE WANTED A NEW PLACE FOR HIS CAR WAS SO ARZT. I had missed Leslie, lol. Win to the alt just for this.
7. Anyway, relevant to the plot thing: Roger said that he had gone to the Dharma initiative and to the island but that he and Ben came back to the real world, which brings me to the following conclusions:
a) this Ben is what Ben would have become if he hadn't been brought to the temple and the Oceanic 815 people hadn't arrived in the seventies, which leads me to believe that the bomb did work because otherwise I can't explain it;
b) working for Dharma gives you cancer when you leave the island (opposite to, idk, Rose who was healed when she arrived there).
It probably might be important. I still need to figure it out though.
8. Conclusion: I'd have liked Ben a lot better if he hadn't been brought to the Temple. I can't dislike him in the alt, dammit. Even if he does have that lingering creepy-ness to him. If next time he talks about the French revolution I'll be happy, but then again Napoleon arrived after the French revolution, so..
9. BEN'S PRINCIPAL WAS IN DIE HARD. Brb, having a laughing fit.
Team we all live in a yellow Widmore submarine
10. WTF WIDMORE WAS THE PERSON COMING BACK TO THE ISLAND????????????????????? Do we have to assume that Jacob meant him two weeks ago?
11. Then again, if Widmore is back, THEN WHERE THE FUCK IS DESMOND?
12. Btw, Widmore's submarine = some of the worst cgi ever.
13. Point is: in S4 I was pissed because I thought this was going to become the Ben and Widmore show.
Now I'd actually be happy if it ended up with Widmore arriving and being like BITCHES, BACK OFF. Hey, at least he isn't a demi-god.
(Even though I still like Jacob. I just do not ever want to see F!Locke ever again, and sadly it isn't the case.)
Ah well.
Team the good, the bad, the psychic and the ugly, or: YOU DIG
14. Ilana is totally the poor men's Clint Eastwood. Sorry, I just go there when anyone mentions digging.
15. At least she's starting to have half a purpose, even if I still don't get why I would care. Even if she provided something amusing, but that's for another section.
16. Miles, never change. You and your peanuts and bananas. Also yay, HE HAD MORE THAN FOUR LINES! Though why the hell did he know about Nikki and Paolo? Did I miss a point last season when they said he did know? And I'm afraid this will be all the acknowledging they'll get this season, not that I mind.
17. FRANK LAPIDUS = PLEASE HAVE A CENTRIC NOW. *swoon* JFC the man is hot. Also his conversations with Ben were delightful. Why isn't he doing anything more than that? WE WANT MORE, DAMN.
18. Good for Sun that she's asking questions. Even though jeez, give her some more to do?
19. The more f!Locke gets around mindfucking people, the more I can't stand him. Also I spent five minutes thinking at Ben that damn, I don't like him, but he's notoriously smarter than listening to f!Locke.
20. Aurgh, the whole conversation between Ben and Ilana was confusing. I mean, while I do appreciate that Ben at least had the grace to acknowledge that it was his fault that Alex died (even with all the stealing) and I could sorta maybe see his point about the whole power deal I really can't buy that in the end he's going with Locke just because no one else will have him, poor baby. I mean, it kind of feels not consistent, considering that we're talking about Mr. Mindfuck and that I spent three years hating his guts, but then again Michael Emerson is good and in the end I freaking was feeling sorry for him, which NEVER happened any other time I think Darlton wanted me to feel sorry for him.
This whole shit is confusing. I can't even hate on him anymore but I don't even want to buy that he's suddenly just looking for someone to give a damn because all you need is love. I mean, IT'S BEN, dammit. I'm feeling like I felt when Sylar suddenly turned out good in Heroes. It was crap and it was OOC and it was mostly WTF and anyway I still liked him better when he wasn't psycho. I'm probably overthinking this but for once I'm glad that f!Locke didn't hit the target, since Ben did go back with Ilana & co. I said that he was too smart for that.
21. THAT LAST SCENE WAS PERFECTION. FINALLY SOME OLD SCHOOL LOST! When I realized they were doing the redux of the 3x16 scene where they all got back to camp with only Richard instead of Juliet I teared up, aw. HUGS! HANDSHAKES! SMILES! HURLEY HUGGING PEOPLE! AWWW. Poor Ben though. He and Richard can hug it out, lol.

22. Hurley, never change. Really.
23. Uh. Jack and Richard in the Black Rock probably were my favorite scene of the ep. Apart from Richard being obviously pretty, him and Jack in the same scene = always a pleasure.
24. Richard speaking, awwww. It really hit me that now he'd want to die. It does make sense imo, especially with all the speech he had at the end, but awwww.
his boyfriend dying really hit him hard, huh? Also I liked that at least he gave some answers. And hell, I really liked that scene. I vote for a Jack/Richard alliance.
25. Also LOL at Hurley being like 'do you trust him?' and Jack being like 'well, he isn't stalling at least.' I was expecting 'at least he has pretty eyelashes'.
26. So waitwaitwait, serious thing: if Jacob touches you, you can't die? That's huge, duh. Richard can't obviously kill himself (like the whole island deal which wouldn't let you die etc. etc.), Jack couldn't kill himself in the flashforwards, Michael couldn't too (even if he wasn't touched by Jacob I guess? but still, island and stuff), Sayid resurrected even if he was technically dead... I mean, it means that until I'm proven wrong Sawyer, Jack, Sayid, Kate, Jin and Sun are immortal...?
Duuuuh.
27. Richard, why so pretty?

28. Ilana, this ep: JACOB WAS THE CLOSEST THING I HAD TO A FATHER.
Dean, 4.01: Your name is Robert Steven Singer. You became a hunter after your wife got possessed, and... you're about the closest thing I have to a father.
Excuse me, brb laughing my ass off.
29. Clearly Ben giving Roger healthy stuff is obviously Sam. *snorts*
30. And Roger was back after his SPN stunt this year. God, sometimes I think they really do that on purpose.
In conclusion:
31. After the premiere, this was my favorite episode this season.
It probably also was my favorite Ben episode.
Considering that we're talking about me, it's scary.
32. The American promo for next week has Leonard Cohen playing in the soundtrack. It's probably the thing that leaves me most WTF in the whole thing.
33. NEEDS MORE BOONE.
And Desmond.
That's probably all. ;)

I don’t know how I feel about Ben’s redemption path. It was one thing I didn’t want to see this season. I think it is natural that he feels remorse and responsibility for Alex, but what about all the other shit he caused? I still can’t get over him kidnapping Alex in the first place or ordering Charlie’s death and forcing Juliet to stay. Still Michael Emerson is such a good actor, he makes Ben's journey interesting.
Ben + Arzt = best crack pairing ever. I want to join the history club!
Richard, why so pretty?
This question deserves our full attention. I think we need to devote the rest of the season to answering it, or simply being allowed to stare at Richard.
Yay for hugs and musical montages! Awww, Ben and Richard should hug it out!

Word, and word on Desmond too. ://
I don't have the slightest idea about how I feel about it either. I didn't ever want to see it but at this point if anyone gets any redemption in this show it'll be a miracle in itself *sigh* and at least Michael Emerson is good at it, otherwise... *shudders* Word about him not feeling remorse about everything else you said. Do-not-want, in theory, but on the spot I can't say that I didn't care for it. Argh, why do they need to confuse me also with character development?!
Ben + Arzt = best crack pairing ever. I want to join the history club!
Me too! Well, they were five, we'll make it seven!
Oh, IT DOES.
I think we need to devote the rest of the season to answering it, or simply being allowed to stare at Richard.
I'd totally be up for it. And please, give him three centrics and an alt where he meets Boone and the screen implodes from the pretty.
Ben and Richard should so hug it out!

Date: 2010-03-10 03:46 pm (UTC)Ben explaining Napoleon = SO APPROPRIATE.
THAT'S WHAT I WAS SAYING; THE FRENCH REVOLUTION, WHICH - as you said - LEADS TO NAPOLEON. You just know Ben knows his Emperors (and Kings). I so loled at the Island - of Elba.
Loved the alt!storyline and Alex and Arzt and Machiavellian!Locke(!) and the power play between the teachers. Also, the old school!hugging and the Widmore!WTF at the end.
After the premiere, this was my favorite episode this season.
Perhaps it beats the premiere even! I definitely liked 6x01-02 and sort of liked Locke's ep and so, but this may have been the highlight of the season so far. No more 6x03:s, thank you very much!
his boyfriend dying really hit him hard, huh?IKR? :( But yay for interesting Richard stuff; loved him at the Black Rock! And if Jacob's touch equals no death that means KATE WILL NEVER DIE!
Leonard Cohen playing in the soundtrack
What the frak? And their choice of song wasn't exactly - oh, Lost! (Had to go search for the promo, which I don't usually do because (a) it's a hassle and (b) the Lost next week promos aren't half as good as the SPN ones. As this one proves, even with Cohen music!)
Where is Desmond, yes? (And Daniel? Charlotte? Juliet? :/)
no subject
Date: 2010-03-10 04:54 pm (UTC)YES. YES. THAT. OH GOD THAT WOULD SO BE BEN'S IDEAL JOB. <3 And YES IT LEADS TO NAPOLEON AND HE TOTALLY KNOWS HIS SUBJECT. I loled at Elba too, soo much.
Word about the alt! I was so engaged in that, lol. ARZT AND LOCKE BEING MACHIAVELLIAN = AWESOME. And ha, the power play between teachers is probably all real stuff. Lost, A REALISTIC SHOW!
It'd probably beat the premiere if the premiere didn't have Boone. ;) Sorry, I'm biased. Locke's ep was good too but this one was def. the best, I agree.
Poor Richard. :((( And yes, I LOVED him at the ship too!
And if Jacob's touch equals no death that means KATE WILL NEVER DIE!
ARGH. Well, it might also mean that Sayid has a chance at redemption... right?
Yeah, WHUT? And why that one? O__O what you said there. (And yeah, that promo was sort of not really showing crap except that the music was awesome.)
Eeeh, where? :/ (and word, word and word.)

Date: 2010-03-10 03:51 pm (UTC)about 7- going to the island and coming back, I had the same thought, wondering if that's Ben with remaining innocence. I think it's pretty interesting as a concept. good point about the cancer.
Widmore's submarine = some of the worst cgi ever.
OMG, right? i meant to mock it in my review, but I forgot. that was so crappy. how can Lost be so bad at things like that? they have budget!
My theory is that Miles overheard Nicky and Paulo in the cemetery, when they buried Locke. how he found a diamond, on the other hand, I don't know! but go Miles!
no subject
Date: 2010-03-10 05:06 pm (UTC)I think it IS Ben without the temple treatment. Which makes me think PITY because then I'd have liked him a lot better.
Seriously? They DO have budget, even SPN manages better cgi and they don't have half the money. :/
Yeah, I totally hadn't thought about that, he probably had. But why the hell would he have dug them up? Also it didn't seem like he did, so.. whatever, awesome anyway. ;)
no subject
Date: 2010-03-10 03:57 pm (UTC)Though why the hell did he know about Nikki and Paolo?
He talks to dead people. Or rather, they talk to him and tell him how they died. You have to figure standing in that graveyard he's heard a *lot*. I'm surprised he's not more creeped out though. "You people buried them when they were still alive?! Just how obnoxious *were* they?!"

Maybe he's adjusted to it? I mean, after he found Karl & Danielle in S4... :/ Ew, anyway.
Just how obnoxious *were* they?!"
A lot, Miles. A LOT.

Date: 2010-03-10 06:42 pm (UTC)I felt so bad for island!Ben talking about Alex :(
And the ending with the reunion around the trees? So much love!
Widmore's sub was such terrible CGI, so true.

Date: 2010-03-10 09:23 pm (UTC)Does that make even sense?
Er, yes. I felt bad for him too. :( but the reunion!! AWW!
Widmore's yellow submarine would have been better if out of the Beatles movie. :////

Date: 2010-03-10 08:22 pm (UTC)Ha! I honestly didn't think that was a possibility, but then after we found out Locke seems to have a perfectly healthy relationship with his father in the AltVerse I kind of expected Ben's relationship with Roger to be good too. Not sure what changed since there's no indication his mother didn't die...
a) this Ben is what Ben would have become if he hadn't been brought to the temple and the Oceanic 815 people hadn't arrived in the seventies, which leads me to believe that the bomb did work because otherwise I can't explain it;
Yeah, I suppose...if the plane never crashed, then Sayid never went back in time and wee Ben was never shot. But...why did they leave the island? And when? Obviously it was *before* the island sank underwater, but if the Oceanic crew never went to the island in the first place to set off the bomb then what made it sink? Gah, this is giving me a headache.
12. Btw, Widmore's submarine = some of the worst cgi ever.
Ack! Why are we going so close? Are we trying to *ram* the island or something?! ;D
IT'S BEN, dammit. I'm feeling like I felt when Sylar suddenly turned out good in Heroes. It was crap and it was OOC and it was mostly WTF and anyway I still liked him better when he wasn't psycho.
Well, the characters on Heroes never had as much depth as the characters on Lost as far as I'm concerned. Comic book superheroes tend to be either all good or all bad with very little in-between. Ben has always been just *mostly* bad and with more complex reasons for doing the things he does.
Team pirates of the Caribbean
HA! YES! So I'm not the only one who keeps mistaking the Black Rock with the Black Pearl? ;)
Apart from Richard being obviously pretty, him and Jack in the same scene = always a pleasure.
Now if only they'd take off a few articles of clothing and start making out...
Ahem. Sorry. Slasher here. *shrug*
Sawyer, Jack, Sayid, Kate, Jin and Sun are immortal...?
Except that Kate and Sawyer were touched when they were little, so they obviously aged. I think it means that, like Michael, they can't die *until* they fulfill whatever purpose they're supposed to fulfill. Maybe that's why there were so many survivors of a crash that should have killed all the passengers of the original flight 815? Oh. I think I just had a breakthrough...
no subject
Date: 2010-03-10 09:28 pm (UTC)if the Oceanic crew never went to the island in the first place to set off the bomb then what made it sink?
Either something else that we don't know yet or the island DID sink because of the bomb and everyone was brainwashed.
Okay, I don't like either theory.
Are we trying to *ram* the island or something?! ;D
No, they're trying to find the land of submarines and sail up to the sun. Sorry. I listen to too much Beatles.
Ah, Heroes people were totally depthless in comparison, totally agreeing with you there. But since I usually hate Ben and I never think he has many complex reasons behind what he does except that he's Mr. Mindfuck I ended up with the comparison. Now I feel bad for him and for having thought he didn't have feelings, figure that out.
THE BLACK ROCK IS SO THE BLACK PEARL. SOMETIME JACK SPARROW WILL COME OUT OF IT.
Hey, I wanted them to make out too. Slasher here equally btw. ;)
Yeah your theory makes more sense. Which anyway means they can't die for now, right? Duuuuh. CONFUSING. But I think you did have one indeed!
no subject
Date: 2010-03-10 09:42 pm (UTC)Okay, I don't like either theory.
Ha! Yes, please don't let it be the second one. Let's just assume for now that they left before whatever it is that sank the island happened.
THE BLACK ROCK IS SO THE BLACK PEARL. SOMETIME JACK SPARROW WILL COME OUT OF IT.
Hee. Seriously.
Hey, I wanted them to make out too. Slasher here equally btw. ;)
Heh. Then again, I always want the pretty boys to make out with each other. And in this case I think Sawyer might have an objection. ;)

But then again, I also like it when LOST pulls stuff like that on me. Look at Jacob: I want to go all psycho-stabby him, like Ben did, for the shit he has pulled on people like Dogen and Richard, and at the same time I adore him. It's so weird!
his boyfriend dying really hit him hard, huh?
THIS. And everything else you said on Richard. Can someone give him a hug already??

Date: 2010-03-10 10:58 pm (UTC)Seeee, I didn't even think of that! I just thought he was being a good son giving his old dad some oxygen. That's how much I bought what he was selling in that ep.
23. Uh. Jack and Richard in the Black Rock probably were my favorite scene of the ep. Apart from Richard being obviously pretty, him and Jack in the same scene = always a pleasure.
Yes, yes it is. *nods agreeably.* Were they talking? ;)
and ITA with your #23-27. But #26 does indeed pose an interesting question, doesn't it?
I really liked this one too, considering it was Ben oriented. And I felt sorry for him! And stuff! I still don't know how that happened. ;)

26 is INDEED an interesting question.
Still, Richard is SO PRETTY. Mm.
Considering that it was Ben oriented it's a sign of the Apocalypse that I liked it at all! ;) And I did feel sorry for him too! CRAZY, I TELL YOU, CRAZYYY!!!

Date: 2010-03-11 03:18 am (UTC)Lol. That is kind of mindblowing. ;)
Btw, Widmore's submarine = some of the worst cgi ever.
Word! It made me laugh.
Also LOL at Hurley being like 'do you trust him?' and Jack being like 'well, he isn't stalling at least.' I was expecting 'at least he has pretty eyelashes'.
Janie, you crack me up. ;)

And INDEED! Though I doubt that they'll manage to torch much out of alt!Ben, which is way less infuriating than his island counterpart. Still. They should. GO DANIELLE!!!
