1. DAMON, ALARIC AND ELENA WERE ON A ROAD TRIP.

2. Right, Alaric was all chill with Damon re killing people and they eyefucked a couple times. I approve.

4. I don't exactly approve of poor Matt being left in the dark until now and risking death from blood loss. Someone please brief him? At this point EVERYONE but him knows.
5. Mason is hot, especially in chains.
6. Tyler is getting better. He still needs to make out with Jeremy.
7. Werewolves and Aztechs? Wtf. Then again, after Lost 6x15, no weird mythology will put me off something. Still, the less they reference it the better.
8. Caroline and Matt breaking up = :((((((

11. Alaric/Jenna: well, it was a wonder it didn't happen last season and they're cute, so I'll take it. It still doesn't get in the way of my Damon/Alaric anyway.
12. In conclusion: it was awesome even if the premiere was still the best until now. BUT ALSO, ALARIC IS BACK. LET'S REJOICE.

4. Mostly, I kinda like how they dealt with the Lisa situation. I liked that she was comprehensive and that they tried to make her more than of a fleshed out character, but it remains that Dean went there because Sam asked him to and there's no way they're getting out of there unless they deliberately ignore it. Which would suck. But I liked that she didn't take Dean's bullshit and that she was okay with him hunting and stuff. Also Ben is still adorable.
5. On that, domesticated!Dean isn't really my thing (also, ADIDAS PANTS AND THAT PICK-UP? AUGH DEAN DRIVING THE PICK UP WAS SO WRONG XD) but I liked the montage at the beginning and the fact that he still kept the gun under his bed and the shotgun in the car made it up for it.
6. Anyway, Dean was pretty much the one who made more sense in this. And tbh sorry but if my brother appeared after one year telling me that he never said he was alive for my own benefit and then said that ooops, maybe I should drop everything and get back to hunting with people I know from Adam, I would say no too. Also the bits with the YED were making me cry or something.
7. On that: what the FUCK is with everyone lying to Dean because they thought it was better for him? That's pretty much the only thing that didn't sit well with me. BOBBY TOO? WTF? I mean, fuck it, they know how Dean is, who the hell even thought that it was a good idea to just let him in the dark? Sorry but I'm not on board with that. Tbh I was hoping for Dean that he'd punch everyone at some point. Also when a bunch of people pretend to know what's better for you without informing you, well, that's one of the things that tend to make me go NO in RL as well so yeah. Not on board with that.
8. Sam is weird. I'd like it to chalk it up to his Hell time (even if tbh if he came back just after he fell down in the hole then how much time did he spend there? O_O) but he's still weird and I don't get it. Then again. I liked Sam throughout S4 and he likes Bon Jovi, so I'm not hating him or anything. I'll be much happier when they explain it.

11. Campbells: mm. I like the idea but I didn't like how everyone but Samuel was kind looking down on poor Dean. ;___; also I want Samuel's anti-wrinkle cream. I'm pretty sure that if he sold it he could retire. But hey, IT'S SKINNER BACK ON MY SCREEN, I'm on board with him at least. The other Campbells not so much, I'll have to see what they do with them. But that bit when they all got into the house and Dean was obviously feeling like they were looking down on him... mm. Do not like.
Since when I became this OMG I WANT TO HUG YOU with Dean? Right, maybe since sometime in S1. Whatevs.
12. Djinns: they're cool! :D If they all have new spins on the MOTWs then I'll be very pleased.
13. Tho seriously, Bobby not telling Dean about anything was wtf. Sam I can kinda get, with a lot of brainstorming, but Bobby... not really. Meh. That's the other MEH thing for me.
14. In conclusion: I liked the S2/S4/S5 premieres a lot better. I can't say about S3 since I've seen it once and it didn't exactly impress me back then, so maybe I liked this one better, idk. I'm also confused but it all depends on where they go and it could be awesome if they manage it, so I'll just see how it goes on. I liked that they didn't go the Jess route with Lisa (unless you count that dream, which made me go all OH DEAN again), I didn't like that everyone thinks that Dean can't decide what's good for him but overall I'm good with it.
15. But it needs more Cas. ;__________; WHERE'S MY NERDY DUDE WITH WINGS.
Also, where's the Sassy fic where he answers Sam's prayers? Because I'm very sad that it hasn't been written yet.
16. Anyway, my two cents: domesticated!Dean won't last for another couple episodes, and I'm mostly unspoiled, so I just hope it ends with as much pain for everyone involved as possible. And eeee, show is back and I'm good with it, so yay for that.

Date: 2010-09-25 01:45 pm (UTC)I liked it too; I think there's definitely a level of context to be taken into consideration, because it's not as if they can just pick up and start over without dealing with where they went and what they did in 5.22 and the build-up to that point.
I did like Lisa in this episode -- my biggest beef with her and Ben was that they weren't fully realized, and the two of them as a unit were little better than most of the other throw-away characters in the show, and then were just pulled back for apparent convenience in the end of last season, after being largely ignored up to that point. I agree that, unless they ignore that Dean went to them for Sam, it's still not what Dean WANTED. One of the parts that got me from the new episode was when Dean says that what he WANTED was his brother. Them's the facts, and they're either going to need to deal with it or shove it under the covers and hope no one notices.
Domesticated!Dean isn't my bag, either, but like you said, his characterization made sense. He was reluctant, and he was doing it at least in part (perhaps/likely a large part) for Sam, so the sense of duty not only to his new family-unit with Lisa and Ben, but also to his brother and his blood family was still apparent, regardless of his suburban-ation, so to speak.
I do NOT AT ALL approve of lying to Dean. Sam's basically notorious for making shit decisions, so him... yeah, but Bobby? Really? Yeah... I mean, I have suspicions as to where they might be going with the whole idea, and if some of those suspicions, versus others, are correct, then I kind of get it, and understand why they're doing it. But even so... it's just such a breach of character. I don't think it was a good choice. I desperately want Dean punching someone, too; I almost wrote it last night after I watched the ep, in fact.
Sam, similarly, I just... yeah. It fits with some of my "suspicions" about their plan for the season (I'm avoiding saying what they are because I don't want to spoil anyone, in case they include little tidbits I've heard along the way, because I generally forget what's "spoilery" and what I just come up with in my head, sometimes), but still. Sam should be less of a lameface, and soon.
Cas does need to return, immediately. More hugs should definitely happen. The Campbells are... hmmm, odd -- as you indicated, the idea is better, I think, than the execution (I have more suspicions, but I'll not speak on those). And it's a DEFINITE issue when they look down on Dean. Just... no. Djinns are VERY cool, and I'm looking forward to revisiting the MOTW idea, as well.
We'll see where next week goes, I guess. I'm going to now shut up, because I've babbled a lot and am likely boring you.

THIIIS. WE'RE SO ON THE SAME PAGE. I'd hate it so much if someone made decisions for me without even informing me (which is what they did) and I'm not buying it for a second that it'd have been better in the long run. I can get their perspective but they still totally fucked there. And if you write Dean punching someone I'll cheerlead you on it because I was hoping like burning that he would. He'd have totally all the rights too.
Also if you want to share your suspicions go ahead! I'm not really spoiled but I know the general stuff and you probably wouldn't ruin me anything. And I'm interested to hear it because if it helps making sense of Sam.. XD but yeah. He should get a grip. Like, in the next two episodes.

-I'm optimistic about the Lisa storyline. As much as I hate it when Sam and Dean part ways, I'm very glad that Dean didn't just up and leave Lisa and Ben. I don't know how they're going to handle that storyline, but I'm hoping they'll keep treating it fairly.
-The main thing I didn't like about how they ended it was that Sam sounded so casual about saying goodbye to Dean again. I mean yeah, Dean might be trying to stay out of hunting, but that doesn't mean they can't keep in close touch for God's sakes! Sam was acting like they wouldn't see each other for a while and that it was cool. THAT'S NOT COOL, DUDE!
-Sam praying to Cas made me smile like a fool. And not even in the Sassy sense, really... I just love it when they're friends. =D That said, CHECK YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE, CAS. YOUR WINCHESTERS BE PRAYING TO YOU, BOY.
-Dean/Lisa and Campbells and Bobby being in on the big Sam secret was all too overwhelming. I think they should've saved SOMETHING for another episode cause you just sat there going "What? HUH? WHAT?" the whole time.
-LOL, you actually made a good point about this premiere in comparison to others. I liked it, but didn't think it was OMGAMAZING, which seems to be the general consensus. And it certainly pales in comparison to most other SPN season premieres, but when I compare it to Magnificent Seven, I realize it really isn't a disappointment at all, lol. I freaking hated Magnificent Seven, man. *shakes head*

Date: 2010-09-26 04:00 am (UTC)I think Sam's hell was the worst possible kind of hell there ever could be, so despite his short stay I think he's scarred far worse than Dean was (Lucifer and Michael battling it out in a cage in hell? Yikes.). But I also suspect that he's shut himself down even more to stop himself from missing Dean. It's like he's shut down every emotion so he won't have to feel anything at all.
As for not telling Dean, ITA - not right. But I understand where Sam was coming from. He got it in his big ol' Sam head that Dean would be better off without him (I mean, Sam pretty much thinks he's responsible for everything bad that ever happened to Dean, up to and including the apocalypse itself) and that guilt blinded him from seeing "Oh, duh, NOT telling Dean isn't cool." I think Sam believed he was giving Dean what he wanted and that if he came back, Dean would return to hunting out of obligation to Sam. When basically it was the other way around, with Dean feeling obligated to be with Ben and Lisa b/c Sam told him to. So maybe it boils down to Sam's self-worth and the power of denial? Sam saw himself and the hunting life as a burden that would drag Dean down, he thought Lisa and Ben meant Dean was free. He thought it would be cruel to take Dean from that, not that it was cruel not to tell Dean he was alive. Sadly, I think Sam's in a place where he thought Dean really would move on and get over it. But we know better!
And I think Bobby didn't want to drag Dean back into hunting either because he was too happy to see Dean finally get out, b/c I often think Bobby wishes he himself had never been in the hunting life either and got to have a vicarious wish fulfillment via Dean. They still shouldn't have left him in the dark, but I think their own issues were majorly clouding their judgment. It was like they were projecting their own personal shit onto the idea of Dean and not dealing with the obvious reality that Dean would be out of his mind with grief.
Anyway, I blather. Point is - boys are back and better be officially reunited and on the road soon. The end.
