Well, it was the only one missing, so I just ignored my canon issues and went with it.

Title: As I Sat by Her Side
Rating: PG
Pairing: Shannon/Sayid
Word Count: 550
Disclaimer: No, not mine. So not mine.
Summary: Sayid doesn’t know why he’s so sure that the bracelet, half buried in white sand, was Boone’s.
Spoilers: Set after Orientation, but anyway up until Exodus I guess.
A/N: for [livejournal.com profile] 5_loves #4, jewel. And I'm done with it. Clearly since it concerns Shannon someone else had to be in the mix, even if he sort of isn't. I actually had a whole lot of other plans for this one, but the current canon completely ditched them and I had to invent something else. Oh well, I hope it's not too far out. The title is sort of stolen from a Nick Cave song completely out of desperation, but it doesn't have a thing to do with this.

He finds it at the beach while coming back from the hatch.

Sayid doesn’t know why he’s so sure that the bracelet, half buried in white sand, was Boone’s.

It’s nothing fancy, he thinks picking it up; just a small stripe of leather with a small silver pendant, shaped as a peace symbol, hanging from the center. Sayid remembers Boone wearing it maybe during the first week, probably when they were discussing the triangulation; he doesn’t know how else he could have noticed it. It probably fell from the suitcase Shannon was bringing to the caves.

It feels somewhat heavy between his fingers; maybe he should go to the hill and bury it where it belongs, but while it would be the right thing to do, it doesn’t actually feel right.

He turns back, heading slowly in the direction of the caves, sand shifting under his shoes. He drops the bracelet in the first pocket his hand comes in contact with. He doesn’t know if it’s going to help or if it’s only going to make things worse, but it’s what feels fair and in Sayid’s chart, now, doing what’s fair ranks more than doing what’s right. Especially because of what happened the last time he did the right thing and not the fair one.

--

Shannon gasps when Sayid’s fingers, closed in a fist when he sat next to her in front of the cave she’s staying in at the moment, unclench slowly and he lays the bracelet on the ground, between them.

She recognizes it at once; it was a gift from some friend of Boone’s for his twentieth birthday. She remembers it only because it was the last time she actually had been in the same room as Boone in such an occasion. Back then, she had thought it was a pretty cheesy thing to give as a gift, it probably wasn’t worth more than ten dollars to be generous; but he had liked it quite a lot and well, after all Boone had always had this tendency to like lame things. If they were cheesy, other than lame, even better.

Now it doesn’t look either way; it’s just there in front of her, in one piece (remarkable, for such a tiny leather stripe), surviving its owner.

Sayid picks it up again and turns in her direction, not saying anything, but the questioning look in his eyes suffices for the question he’s silently asking. She nods and raises her arm, a certain warmth blossoming beneath her skin when Sayid’s fingers lightly grasp her wrist before he brings it to lie on his knee. He ties the bracelet around it then, not too tight but not loose either; the small peace symbol falls against her skin when she moves her hand and it feels warm.

She shifts a bit closer, breathing with some sort of relief as Sayid’s arm goes around her shoulders; her hand with the bracelet rests against his neck when she raises her head and he bends down, his lips meeting hers. She sighs into the kiss, letting her frame rest against his, Sayid’s other arm around her waist; the small pendant presses against her skin and his at the same time and Shannon thinks that it doesn’t really feel as wrong as it should.

End.
